July 19, 2012 – Erwin Dietrich AG is always up to fun with its ingenious medals and tokens. The most recent issue is dedicated to the Greek euro crisis. The euro is in mourning and the owl has become a vulture threatening bankruptcy.
‘What country first?’ asked Hans-Ueli Wartenweiler always up for good ideas. ‘What country will abolish the euro first?’

Since mockery medals have satirically commented on the great events of mankind since centuries he has issued himself a mockery medal on the Greek euro. The inner of the 1-euro coin has remained recognisable, but instead of the outer there is a black border and the legend ‘Ein Pleitegeier’ (a vulture threatening bankruptcy).
With this contribution Hans-Ueli Wartenweiler had the idea on how to commemorate numismatically a desperate time when the euro – once so much celebrated – had been severly tested. An ironical enrichment of every collection.
