February 10th, 2011 – From January 28th to 30th, 2011, the 40th edition of the World Money Fair was conducted in Berlin. More than 15,000 visitors came to see the approximately 300 exhibitors including more than 60 international Mints and National Banks.

One day prior to the Fair the ceremonial act on the occasion of the anniversary was celebrated in the Bodemuseum.
Albert M. Beck – here with Prof Dr Bernd Kluge, Director of the Berlin Coin Cabinet – presented his book on the history of the World Money Fair.
At the same time, auction sale 180 and 181 of the auction house Fritz Rudolf Künker was conducted in the Estrel Convention Center. A new German record was established for the most expensive coin ever auctioned off in Germany. A Chinese Dollar achieved 460,000 Euros.
Thursday afternoon, the Honorary President, Albert M. Beck, declared the Technical Forum under the direction of Dieter Merkle (l., Schuler Pressen) and Thomas Hogenkamp (r., Spaleck) open.
The former room proved too small for the many trade visitors so that a new, bigger room had to be found.
The Director of the Polish Mint, Tadeusz Steckiewicz, declared the Media Forum open.
Günther Waadt of the Bavaria State Mint presented the German news this year.
Hansi, the small robot of the Austrian Mint, stole all living human persons’ thunder.

Friday, 10 o’clock sharp, the red ribbon of the 40th edition of the World Money Fair was cut. Afterwards, the crowds were flocking.
The polite hostesses helped to find the way.
The products of the Royal Dutch Mint were much sought-after so that huge queues were formed.
The Czech Mint, too, had its work cut out.
The Guest of Honor 2012 is already certain: Great Britain and the Royal Mint.
MDM presented the trophy of the Women’s World Cup 2011(tm).
Highly coveted with young and old was the international coin passport.
The team of the Polish Mint was a worthy representative of its native country.
The Swissmint presented two news at once at the World Money Fair: the Zibelimärit and Max Frisch.

The box of the Federal Republic of Germany was crowded.
Especially when Heinz Hoyer, designer of the new special coin “North Rhine Westphalia” amongst others, signed autographs.
Dr Rainer Grund, Director of the Dresden Coin Cabinet, exhibited at the box of Saxonia replicas of some of his precious coins and medals.
Again an attraction was the balancier which the Berlin Mint presented at its box.

Within the World Money Fair the Mint Directors Conference was conducted, an international association of all mints of the world.
The social aspect was not neglected, either. Here Tadeusz Steckiewicz welcomes the new President of the Australian Mint, to the gala dinner.
As every year, the occasion was very festive.
During the gala dinner, the President of the World Money Fair, Hans-Henning Göhrum, celebrated his birthday.
Richard Borek was awarded the World Money Fair Award 2011.
