Lanz gives the solution to his competition puzzle for Auction 164: the coin on the back of the catalogue was forged

May 18, 2017 – If anyone buys coins or medals at Numismatik Lanz, they will get a guarantee for the authenticity of their objects. As a member of the International Association of Professional Numismatists and of the Association of German Coin Dealers, the auction house Lanz warrant for their objects. In order to sensitize collectors and show them how soothing it can be, if they don't have to worry about the authenticity of the coins they purchase, Dr. Hubert Lanz created a competition on occasion of his jubilee of 70 years Numismatik Lanz. People had to find a forgery that had been put in the auction catalogue on purpose.
