April 3, 2014 – The National Bank of Serbia’s Visitor Centre will be holding the XXI Annual Meeting 2014 of the International Committee of Money and Banking Museums. The meeting will be held in Belgrade, Serbia, in the premises of the National Bank of Serbia, 1-4July 2014.

The ICOMON Board has adopted the theme: “Money and Banking Museums –Raising Heritage and Financial Education Awareness”. Participants are invited to take part in the joint exhibition with the theme: “Educate to Win”.

Money as a specific form of cultural heritage and the expression of national identity epitomises the centuries past and the awareness of permanence and mutability. Money museums are a reminder of the inextricable link between tradition and modern times. By carrying out their activities, i.e. educating primarily young generations in the fields of protection of and respect for heritage, including financial education and promotion of new ideas, money museums aim to implement new approaches and thus help raise awareness and knowledge.

Being socially responsible and cultural institutions, museums must pave their path towards becoming available to all users. They can enhance, deepen and perpetuate, only in a small segment, civilisational and cultural heritage which they leave to future generations for keeping and remembrance. Addressing this role is one of the conference’s main concerns.
