The Perth Mint creates 1oz silver coins Ghostbusters

July 13, 2017 – Released in 1984, ‘Ghostbusters (TM)’ is an American supernatural comedy film that follows the story of three doctors working in the Paranormal Studies Department of Columbia University in New York. After being fired for their unreliable and suspect findings, research, and methods, the three decide to start their own business specialising in paranormal investigations and eliminations known as ‘Ghostbusters’. 

Together, Dr Ray Stantz, Dr Peter Venkman, and Dr Egon Spengler set up shop in an abandoned firehouse in New York City. They eventually stumble upon a gateway to another dimension which will wreak havoc on the metropolis, and so they set about attempting to save Manhattan from mass destruction. 

‘Ghostbusters (TM)’ was a critical and commercial success and launched a popular media franchise which includes a sequel released in 1989 called ‘Ghostbusters (TM)’.

Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu.

The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2017-year date, and the monetary denomination.
The reverse of the coin depicts Dr Spengler, Dr Stantz, and Dr Venkman as they appeared in ‘Ghostbusters (TM)’, against a backdrop of New York City and a green coloured sky. The design also includes the ‘no ghost’ icon and the inscription GHOSTBUSTERS.

Each coin is presented in a black and green themed display case featuring the words ‘WHO YA GONNA CALL?’ on the outside of the case, within a themed shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
