“The lifework of Ferdinand and Ferry Porsche is a key component in the development of our country Baden-Wuerttemberg on its way to become the most significant automobile location in Germany. Then as now, Porsche does not merely represent an automobile, a sports car manufacturer but stands for ingenuity, image, quality and values”, says Head of the Department for Finance and Economy, Ralf Schumacher, during the presentation of this year’s art medal in the Porsche Museum Stuttgart on December 2, 2014.

The medal has been artistically designed by Prof. Ulrich Böhme while Werner Mebert has done the masterful engraving. The series of art medals entitled “Great Inventors from Baden-Wuerttemberg”, which had started in 2007 with Artur Fischer, has become a special kind of trademark of the coin and medal manufacturer “State Mints of Baden-Wuerttemberg”. The series is dedicated to outstanding individuals from Baden-Wuerttemberg which significantly advanced technical development thanks to their creativity and genius.

The history of manufacturing coins and medals in Baden-Wuerttemberg goes back more than six centuries. Today, the State Mints of Baden-Wuerttemberg are a leading, internationally operating minting enterprise. Together, the two mints Karlsruhe and Stuttgart produce about 40% of the German circulation and collector coins.

Hence, it is only logical to commemorate the ingenuity of these two automobile pioneers Ferdinand and Ferry Porsche with a medal created by the State Mints”, Ralf Schumacher concluded.
