June 9, 2016 – Throughout the world and until the present day, Miguel de Cervantes, as the creator of works like Don Quixote, is praised as one of the greatest Spanish writers ever. On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of his death in 2016, the Royal Spanish Mint, Real Casa de la Moneda, will release two proof coins in his honor, in addition to the 30 euro face value coin.

The reverse of the gold coin depicts the busts, made of clay, of Don Quixote and Sancho that were used as inspiration for the artists chosen to illustrate the first edition of the book commissioned by the Royal Spanish Academy in 1780.
Spain / 10 Euros / Silver .925 / 27g / 40mm / Mintage: 7,500.
The reverse of the silver coin reproduces the statue of Cervantes located in front of the Spanish Parliament, in Madrid, and the hallmark of Juan de la Cuesta, printer of the first edition of “Don Quixote”, as well as of many other works of Cervantes.
