March 7, 2013 – This year’s ONS conference on Islamic Numismatics in Tuebingen will be held on 4th and 5th May 2013 in the main lecture room of the Dept. of Orient- und Islamwissenschaften of the Asia-Orient-Institute of Tuebingen University, Wilhelmstr. 122. A special event this year will be the 25 anniversary of laying the foundations of FINT by the acquisition of the Stephen Album collection by the University with the help of the Volkswagen Foundation. So there is good reason to review what has become out of the collection as well as the activities of FINT, the public use of the collection and its future.
The proceedings are still open and contributions to the programme by papers regarding Islamic numismatics in English, French or German would be welcome.
With regard to the venue the simple hotels Barbarina (Wilhelmstr. 94) and Meteora (Weizsäckerstr. 1) can be reached by foot easily, while car drivers may prefer reasonably priced hotels in near by Bebenhausen, Lustnau or Pfrondorf.
Aram Vardanyan’s dissertation ‘The Coins as Evidence for the History of Armenia and Adharjayan in the Xth Century AD’, cataloguing some 188 coin types/dates will be available at a special subscription price during the conference.
For drinks and cookies a fee of 10 euro will be raised from participants (with the exception of students).
