September 5, 2013 – When a meteorite went down in Russia earlier in 2013, for the very first time a large number of persons were hurt during such an event. Some thousand persons around the city of Tchelyabinsk had to go to hospital due to injuries. Now, however, there is something good to come out of this.
At the Olympic Winter Games in the Russian city of Sochi the gold medals awarded to the winners in seven disciplines will incorporate particles of the meteorite. This special honour will go to the winners in the men’s 1,500-meter speed-skating, the women’s 1,000 and men’s 1,500 short track, the women’s cross-country skiing relay, the men’s K-125 ski jump, the women’s super giant slalom and the men’s skeleton.
Moscow jeweller Adamas manufactures all medals of the Olympic Winter Games 2014 and will as well include the chondrite elements of the seven special gold medals.
