April 3, 2014 – In summer 2013 Frank Leeuwerck who blogs about scripophily asked whether there is a difference between men and women – concerning collecting. And he did not only ask this to himself but to his readers. And, by the way, we did, too, calling you up to help Frank. 36 people participated in his survey among which there were 3 women. They answered 21 questions which ranged from the beginnings (did you ever collect anything as a child?) to the most recent time (in the past 12 months, where did you obtain new additions for your collection?).
A large section was dedicated to the gender differences in particular asking men and women to choose out of two elements what they prefer over the other as motive for buying something (scarcity vs beauty, historical significance vs completeness of the collection, and so on).
Later, in his blog Frank published the poll’s results in three parts: Interaction, Preferences, Influences and Areas of interest.
Unfortunately only three women are not a really solid quantity for further theories about their gender specific collecting habits. This seems characteristic, though, as nearly half of the men stated that they do not know any collecting woman.
