March 26, 2015 – Most coin collectors will never have heard of Graphium policenes, also known as Common Swordtail.

That could change with the new commemorative coin that Coin Invest Trust has designed for the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. The depicted butterfly comes from the Papilionidae family and with its deep blue colouring and sword-like tail is among the most beautiful butterflies in Africa.

A preserved specimen? It almost looks like it. The most noticeable difference between the living animal and its numismatic twin is their respective size. In the wild, the Common Swordtail reaches a wingspan of up to 65 mm.
The three-dimensional butterfly is the fifth coin in the highly popular series “Butterflies in 3D”. Chances are good it will be sold out just as fast as its predecessors.
The coins are minted by B.H. Mayer’s Kunstprägeanstalt GmbH. Collectors can purchase the issue through specialty dealers.
