February 23, 2017 – On April 5-8, 2017 Harlan J. Berk, Ltd. (HJB) and the History In Your Hands Foundation (HIYHF) will host the inaugural Chicago Coin Expo (CCE) at the Chicago Cultural Center.

More than 1000 coin and currency enthusiasts, collectors, history buffs and curious visitors of all ages are expected to attend the free expo to view, learn and purchase items from more than 75 dealers participating in the event. The show brings together coin experts from around the world and will feature auctions, lectures and two rooms of numismatic dealers. The show is free and open to the general public with a suggested donation to the History in Your Hands Foundation. All net proceeds from the event will benefit HIYHF, a federally recognized 501c3.

In previous years, the Chicago International Coin Fair (CICF) had been held in Rosemont, Ill. That show has since been dissolved, in part due to feedback from dealers and collectors who for many years have wanted a rare coin show to be re-established at a more prominent venue in downtown Chicago.

“As a long-established Chicago firm we feel obligated to present a sophisticated, well-organized and enjoyable show,” says Aaron Berk, vice president of HJB, and noted numismatic and classical antiquity expert. “We felt there was no more appropriate venue than the Chicago Cultural Center to showcase the rich history, artistry and value of coins and collections and their significance to human civilization. Plus, this convenient location allows dealers and expo visitors to take advantage of the vibrant downtown scene and visit Chicago’s treasured cultural attractions.”

The show kicks off on Wednesday, April 5th with an early preview opportunity at 4:00 p.m., followed by a welcoming cocktail reception in the G.A.R. Rotunda from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. The show will be open to the general public Thursday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Auctions will be held Thursday – Saturday by Gemini Auction and Heritage Auctions, one of the world’s largest auction houses, which recently opened a new showroom in the River North area of Chicago, IL.

“We are tremendously excited about being back in downtown Chicago for our auctions in conjunction with the inaugural CCE show. We are in the process of building an auction catalog that will live up to the venue and historical importance of an iconic American city like Chicago,” says Cristiano Bierrenbach, executive vice president.
