Banknote Printing Bribery Scandal in Australia

December 11, 2012 – In 1988 Australia introduced a cutting-edge technology in banknote printing. At that time the Note Printing Australia (NPA), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), started printing the first polymer banknotes. Not very long and other countries, especially in South East Asia due to the local climate conditions, were interested in adopting this technology too.
It seems that contracts were concluded through bribing public officials of foreign banks. Currently Australia’s Parliament and the local courts in Melbourne are investigating in what exactly happened until some years ago. Eight former employees are implicated and RBA Governor Glenn Stevens and the former Deputy Governor Ric Battellino are connected and to be heard in Parliament.
