The Belgian School at Athens organizes its “two-year” annual meeting on Tuesday, 23rd November 2021 in Athens. After moving toward a “normality” in academic activities and since no public report on the various activities for 2019-2020 was published, this year’s Annual Meeting will be taking place at the “Kostis Palamas” building of the University of Athens (Akadimias 48 & Sina, Athens) on 23rd November 2021 at 7:15 PM.

The meeting begins with a speech of the Ambassador of Belgium Mrs Françoise Gustin. The director of the EBSA, Prof. Jan Driessen, will present the exciting field activities at Thorikos, Sissi, and Itanos while also reporting on the numerous other academic activities which took place in 2019 and 2020 both in Greece and in Belgium. This presentation will be followed by a lecture by Prof. Didier Viviers (ULB/Royal Academy of Belgium) on “Apamea in Syria: archaeology, war and politics”. This lecture will be followed by a reception offered, as always, by the Ambassador in the same “Kostis Palamas” building.

All participants should be able to demonstrate either a valid vaccination pass or a PCR negative test (72 hours prior to the event) or a certificate of recovery from COVID-19 (in the last six months).

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only a limited number of places will be available, so a first-come, first-serve order will be followed. For those who wish to “reserve” their place, please register via email as soon as possible. There will be no hybrid, online recording of the event.
