December 1, 2011 – In occasion of Christmas, this important feast for the whole Christianity, the Principality of Andorra issues a new coin. The 5 diner silver coin is released in October and has been conceived by the Coin Invest Trust. Its experience is revealed by the skillful incorporation of a Swarowski© element as Star of Bethlehem on the partially coloured reverse.

Principality of Andorra – 5 Diner – 925 Silver – 25.00 g – 38.61 mm – Mintage: 2.500.

As every year, this autumn the Principality of Andorra releases a Christmas coin in silver 925. The Coin Invest Trust designed a subtle motif with a partially colored obverse featuring a Swarowski© element as Star of Bethlehem to place an intriguing accent. The coin is issued in Brilliant Uncirculated Patinated quality and is limited to 2,500 pieces.

Like an authentic miniature painting the reverse is partially colored. In the right of the field we assist at the Nativity scene looking into the stable of Bethlehem. There, Joseph and Mary are kneeling in front of Jesus. A yellow ray of light casts onto the newborn child. On the darkish blue sky the Star of Bethlehem shines in the middle of other celestial bodies; the great star is executed by an integrated and specially shaped Swarowski© element. Above this scene the Christmas Greeting is written in Catalan, one of Andorra’s official languages: BON NADAL.

The obverse features Andorra’s coats of arms, in the exergue the face value is specified: “5 D.” indicates 5 diner, the value of Andorra’s collector coins. At the bottom of the obverse the year of issue is shown: “2011”. The official name of the country runs around in the inscription: “PRINCIPAT D’ANDORRA”.

Today Christmas becomes increasingly popular in countries with no Christian tradition like e.g. China. This shows the universality of the message transported by this festivity. Love and affection, hope and cheerfulness, peaceableness and non-violence – all these are captured by the scenic obverse of this coin carrying us to a starry night in the Holy Land 2000 years ago. But thanks to its innovative technique the coin confers to this classical motif a totally new charm.
